You Can Do It!
Isn’t it awesome to be a child of God (I John 3:1)! To know the Lord, to experience the love of God, to understand the grace He has offered, to get a glimpse of His glory - it just doesn’t get much better! With all of those blessings in mind, consider this: what would it mean if I kept God’s blessings to myself?
(Seriously, stop and think about it for a moment…)
Sharing the love, grace, and glory of God with others is a privilege. In Matthew 5:19, Jesus told the man whom He had cast the demon from, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” We often treat “evangelism” as some big, scary thing. Thankfully, evangelism is not any more difficult than doing exactly what Jesus said to do in Matthew 5:19. In other words: You can do it!
If you are still struggling to get active in sharing the gospel, here are a few simple prompts and conversation starters to try:
“Do you have any plans this weekend? … I worship God every Sunday morning with a group of Christians in Danville. Would you like to come worship with me?”
“Would you be interested in studying the Bible with me? We could arrange a time that would work for your schedule. Are there certain days of the week that are better for you than others?”
When discussing what you did over the weekend, tell about something you took away from the worship service. Follow-up by sharing a link to the sermon.
Invite someone to bring their child/grandchild to our Bible Stories in the Park this June.
Invite a few families in your neighborhood over to your house for a Bible study. (Not comfortable teaching a small group? Just offer to host! You can still invite your neighbors over and ask someone else from our congregation to lead the study).
Share a passage of Scripture with someone, along with a short message, via text, email, or handwritten note. Here a few examples:
Philippians 1:3 “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,” - I began reading Philippians this morning and thought of you when I read this verse. I’m glad God has blessed me with a friend/co-worker/boss/employee like you. Have a great day!”
Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” - You always go out of your way to help others, and I know you don’t get the credit you deserve. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you. Keep up the good work!
Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - You have been in my prayers. Do you have this rest that Jesus promises? I’d love to share with you how the Lord provides rest for the weary. Let me know when you want to grab coffee together.
There is no one right way to share the message of God and His saving love. The important thing is to just do it. Consider attending our next evangelism work group to both gain and share encouragement with our church family. Continue to pray for open doors to open hearts, (Colossians 4:2-3). You can do it!
